No Country for poets

Farouk Goweida is a modern Arabic poet. He is considered in Egypt as the Egyptian Nizar Jwaida1 Qabbani , the Younger Qabbani . Despite his admiration to the famous Syrian poet , Goweida considered himself as shy person romantically but a bold one politically.

Goweida is journalist before being a poet , he is working in Al Ahram national newspaper. He is very sweet shy person , he is religious also yet open minded.

I love Poetry ,the Arabic poetry especially the political one more than the romantic poetry . And I have to say in the last three years Goweida managed to reach the same level of anger of Qabbani in his poems.

In fact with my all due respect I think Goweida is much more in danger than Qabbani because he became popular in a nation that does not like poetry , Classical Arabic poetry , my aunt and grand ma who hate poetry read his page in Al Ahram and watch him when ever he appears on TV reciting his poems.

Goweida started his anger revolution in poetry by a fantastic poem called “Get angry”  calling indirectly for revolution against tyranny. He was officially called to state security for investigation regarding it , after this investigation he entered the hospital.  But it did not stop him at all , he then blamed the Nile for becoming so tamed that it is no longer Nile in no longer Egypt

Goweida began to attack the government exposing scandals in his page in weekly Al Ahram on Friday including the big scandal of selling Sinai lands to Israelis through Egyptian middle men , it made Nazif goes coco.

Goweida till now did not stop ,already he is lucky that he is popular poet in the Mediterranean sea ,so if anything heavens forbid happen to him ,all the fingers will be towards the regime.

Goweida’s poems after “Get angry” became darker , sadder and more angrier describing the terrible and sorrowful situation of Egypt. “I am sorry it is in Arabic , by the way this is short part of Get angry , it was published on series every Friday”

His first poem in 2008 was a powerful poem written tribute to the young people who were drowned in the cold sea in the search of better , it is called “This country is not like my country anymore

Because of his fair and honest attack on the cabinet , Nazif blacklisted him. The man already was elected to join the high council of Culture when he found out that his name was erased by the order of Nazif. He did not care because he knew there is a war against him from the regime but as sweet poet he felt sad for what was coming “he is real sweet person”

Amal Fahmy  , if you remember this famous radio icon clashed again with the state and the administration of the Radio and she went fierce again when she found out that her show was edited from two weeks ago and a part of it was cut . Fahmy was discussing as far as I remember the GSC exams then she read by her sweet voice the wonderful poem of the year “This country is not like my country anymore” . They remove that part . Amal again went mad and she has all the right to do so.

Believe or not the education ministry banned in his poems in the reciting poetry contests so children can’t read and feel his calls for rightful anger !!?

Goweida could not see the younger generations being repressed like this and decided to escalate the matter talking about it on TV.

Goweida is the real of poet of this era , with my all respect to Ahmed Fouad Nagam and Abd El-Rahman Abnoudi. Nagam is sarcastic where as Abnoudi is dancing on the stairs , sometimes with the regime ,other times with the people , it was his special character since 1960s but Goweida is like the Egyptian people , silent for quite sometimes then he goes like volcano.
